My name is Maurice Fitzpatrick. I am a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. I have been lecturing and writing in Tokyo for the past six years

Last year, I was lucky to have one of my film scripts taken up by RTE and the BBC. I was co-producer and writer of the film and have written a book on the same subject.

The Boys of St. Columb's tells the story of the first generation of children to receive free secondary education as a result of the ground-breaking 1947 Education Act in Northern Ireland. This film tells the story of how the political and historical conditions of Northern Ireland altered as a result of the mass education of its population, culminating in the Civil Rights Movement of the late 1960s which drew its inspiration from the USA.

I have also had the privilege of speaking with some well-known and talented journalists, writers, poets and playwrights. Interviews with Anthony Cronin, Seamus Deane, and Frank McGuinness can be viewed on my Articles page.

Maurice’s new book on The Boys of St. Columb’s can be purchased from The Liffey Press.
